The 1 Mineral That Heals Mind, Body & Spirit

SALT!! It not only tastes fantastic, it’s also healing.

In this blog, I’m going to share some of the physical, emotional, and spiritual healing characteristics of salt!

Salt for Physical Health

The main stream media and conventional medicine has demonized salt in the favor of heart health. But let’s not categorize all salts in one bucket. Not all salt is created equal and there is definitely a difference between unrefined, mineral-rich varieties like sea salt versus table salt that has been heavily processed and stripped of all of its natural nutrients.

The truth is that our bodies have evolved with salt over thousands of years. In fact, it is incredibly important to our basic survival. I am not speaking of the highly refined, purified sodium that exists in excess in processed foods or refined sodium chloride (table salt). Refined and processed sodium chloride, no matter the source, is bad for our overall health.

However, unrefined salt in it’s natural form has up to 80 essential minerals and electrolytes that are responsible for your metabolic function, including proper nerve and muscle function, maintaining acid-base balance and keeping you hydrated. Your body depends on salt!

Do you get cravings for salt? Check your adrenal glands! The Adrenal Glands secrete a hormone called Aldosterone. Aldosterone has the job of regulating water levels and the concentration of minerals (like sodium), in your body. If you’ve suffered with adrenal fatigue for some time, your production of aldosterone is likely to be reduced. This explains why many people with adrenal problems often have a craving for salt. If you have adrenal dysfunction, it’s critical to replete your mineral stores!

Salt as an Emotional Healing Tool

Ever wonder why you feel so calm and relaxed after a good cry? Salt water in the form of tears is an emotional and energetic release. Crying heals at a soul and cellular level. That deep release calms the nervous system.

Releasing salt in the form of sweat detoxes your physical body from toxins… again releasing physical stress and calming the nervous system.

Salt for Spiritual Healing

There’s good reason we’re drawn to the sea….

Historically, doctors would recommend their patients go to the seaside to improve various ills. Using seawater for medical purposes even has a name: thalassotherapy.

The weightlessness of being in the water and the breathing patterns used when swimming engage the parasympathetic nervous system.

The minerals and exposure to the electromagnetic charge of the earth ground and centers us.

In Conclusion….

There are numerous methods salt is used for healing, from the ones mentioned above to antiseptics to saline nasal solutions to sole flushes. Salt is one of our most readily available natural healing tools at our exposure.

In a nutshell, surround yourself with healthy levels of unrefined salt. In your food - ditch the processed sodium found in processed foods, and switch over to natural sea salt, Himalayan sea salt, or Redmond’s Sea Salt. Take Epsom salt or Sea Salt baths. Allow yourself to cry and release emotional stress.
